Drogheda is an industrial and port town on the east coast of Ireland, straddling counties Louth and Meath. Located just 43 km north of Dublin city centre, it sits along the key Dublin–Belfast corridor.
As of the 2022 census, Drogheda has a population of 44,135, making it the largest town in Ireland by both area and population. Of this, 35,990 residents are in County Louth, with a further 8,145 in County Meath.
Drogheda lies on the River Boyne, and is the final bridging point before the river meets the Irish Sea. Just 8 km west of the town is Newgrange, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Ireland’s most important prehistoric landmarks.
